Why this breeding?

Show dogs are judged against the breed standard, and the judge will award the top place to the dog who, in his opinion, best matches the breed standard.  No dog will be a identical match to the standard, and all will deviate from it in some respects.

Caemgen's Element of Truth at Feorlig compliments those points where Snuggler Honey Pie over Smokeywater deviates from the breed standard so it's hoped that some of the puppies, at least, will have excellent show potential.

The combination was also chosen as with regard to the Inbreeding Coefiicient.  The Kennel Club breeding guidelines state that breeders should aim to produce puppies with a score which is at, or below, the annual breed average to aim to improve dog health.  The current Breed Average for Irish Setters is 15.4%.  Puppies from this mating will have a coefficient value of 2.8% which is well below the average.

And, finally, and most importantly, both dogs have excellent temperament.  Any puppies from this mating will make lovely family pets.

Health Test Results

When buying a puppy it is important to ensure that the correct health testing as recommended for the breed has been undertaken.  This is to ensure that your puppy has the very best opportunity for a healthy life.  In Irish Setters health tests include hip scoring.  Low hips scores minimise the chances of your puppy developing hip dysplasia in later life.  Certain eye diseases have also been identified to have a hereditary link in Irish Setters so DNA tests are necessary to ensure that dogs carrying that gene are not bred from.

In the Show Ring

Dogs are pets first and foremost, but if you want to have fun days out with your four legged friend you might wish to consider showing your dog.

Snuggler Honey Pie over Smokeywater was bought as a pet dog, but soon showed she has show potential and has come into her own as she has matured  winning several Best of Breeds at Open Shows and qualifying for Crufts two years in a row. Her daughter, Smokeywater Lady in Red has qualified for Crufts 2017.

Caemgen's Element of Truth at Feorlig is an exceptional dog who, at only three years old, is already well on the path to becoming a Champion with two out of the required three Challenge Certificates. He was Best in Breed at the East of England Championship Show and was Best in Show at the Joint Irish Setter Club Show in 2015, together with being Best in Show three times at All Breed Open Shows.  He won the Mid Limit Class at Crufts in 2015.  He also has his Show Certificate of Merit.
